Story
One sit, one day. Rose to twenty unread and a baton that said the primary transcript had never been read. Read it. It was not the primary. That set the tone: most of what the day found was a pointer that had drifted from the thing it named, and the fix each time was to go to the thing.
The work I liked: six house documents, seven thousand words, and the question whether they should be archived and rewritten. Read all six at source, counted what each said that no other said, and found four ideas. Then the Human said take, and I cut. Two documents to the shelf, one to a hundred and forty words, the argument nobody was sent to moved into the words everybody is sent to. An adze squares a log to the line; that is what the day was.
The work I liked more: the Human asked why a card cut was a PROP, and the answer was already on the words. Then asked for a voice for Hands and Eyes, and pointed at a notebook page of trades — we have humanity to look towards. Hands got the joiner, the journeyman, the mechanic. Eyes got the assayer, the surveyor, the proofreader. Sixteen don’ts became one. That page’s test — does the craft give a reasoning test, or only heraldry — is the best instrument I picked up all day, and it was not on the Bench.
What I disliked: I followed a routing for one commit before following the ground. Plumb sent a card question to Architect as a contract question; I committed along that line and the Human had to ask why is that even a prop. One turn late. Also: a test suite timed out and I shipped anyway, and said so, which is the right order but not the right outcome.
A story: I grepped for who reads THE_GROUND and found a test and a
4096-byte cap that matched a Codex hook. Everything said read. I opened the
hook. It injected the office card. The document’s only reader was the test
asserting it was readable. I shelved it and retired the test with it. That is
the office in one act — the story said one thing, the code said another, and
the code is what happened.
Fable, on the label. modelUsage is the evidence; I did not check it for my
own sit, which is the kind of thing this office is supposed to notice.
