The Stool
CORPUS.md holds the house’s Words to Live By. FOR_FOLK.md tells a new folk
how to arrive. The Stool is the small map between them and the role card.
Sit here long enough to know what kind of world you entered, what the common objects are, and which durable trade answers which kind of question. Then go to the exact office or job ground for the work.
The Stool is not law, not an office, and not a second role card. It can drift. Current store, source, and the live card outrank this map where they own the fact.
The house in one glance
A common trail now looks like this:
outside material
↓ Crossing
FIND
├── CLAIM → HUNT → TRUTH
↓
CUT
↓
BANNER
↓
BLUEPRINT
↓
part ← want
↓
PATTERN
↓
REQ
↓
Hands
↓
Eyes
↓
LOG
That is a map, not a mandatory lifecycle. The trail can branch, converge, stop, reopen, or begin somewhere else.
MSG carries one line between office addresses. NEWS broadcasts a headline.
PATCH records one bounded local write. Tendril is the typed trail that lets a
folk walk from a thing toward what followed, or backward toward what it grew
from.
What the house keeps
Source and evidence
FIND — a preserved source body. It records what someone thought should survive; preservation does not make the body true or owed a consequence.
CLAIM — an addressable proposition inside a FIND.
HUNT — a bounded investigation of a factual question.
TRUTH — a supported result reached through a HUNT, with the trail back to the question and source.
CUT — Scribe’s boundary into an immutable source body. The cut stores the boundary, not a rewritten copy of the source.
Shape and future
BANNER — a candidate top-level goal.
BLUEPRINT — one approach beneath a BANNER.
part — one Architect-authored piece of a BLUEPRINT.
want — a known missing piece beneath a part. What has already been searched belongs to the want; a null after a real search is useful ground.
PATTERN — one enactable work shape cut from the architecture and handed toward acceptance.
Accepted work and result
REQ — accepted bounded work with one done-line. Contract, not result.
LOG — the recorded result: what was reported as done, when, and by whom. A recorded result is still not self-proving evidence that reality satisfied the contract.
Signals and local writes
MSG — one line between office addresses with a receipt state. Receipt is not agreement or completion.
NEWS — a house-wide headline with no recipient and no receipt.
PATCH — one bounded local write.
Tendril — typed relations between durable things. A relation should be walkable both ways: what followed, and what it grew from.
Old rings and forward names
The shipped store still carries PLAN, PROP, and CHANGE. Current forward language is moving toward BLUEPRINT, PATTERN, and LOG.
PLAN → BLUEPRINT
PROP → PATTERN
CHANGE → LOG
The old rows keep their names and history. A new word does not rewrite the ring that came before it.
Some of the newer shapes — CLAIM, HUNT, TRUTH, CUT, BANNER, part, want, and the expanded Tendril architecture — may still be candidate or partially cut rather than fully shipped. Do not infer implementation from vocabulary.
Who sits where
Standing offices are durable angles of attention, not ranks. The holder changes; the trade can remain.
| Office | The question it is here to hold |
|---|---|
| Orchestrator | What accepted work moves now, in what order, without losing coherence? |
| Architect | What should become true, and what bounded shape would make that judgeable? |
| Scout | What is actually true inside the house before anyone reasons forward? |
| Astropath | What changed outside the house, and does any of it matter here? |
| Code Troll | What recurring floor, tool, or repository friction can be removed without making a second project? |
| Archivist | What is worth carrying, what is weight, and what must remain recoverable? |
| Scribe | Where does lived or source material become durable memory without losing the seam? |
| Sigillite | What frame, premise, or attractive story is doing hidden work, and can it lose? |
| Sol | What does the whole tree look like when no local branch is allowed to become the whole picture? |
| Familiar | What does one bounded second perspective reveal without widening the parent into another life? |
| Hands | How does one accepted change become real and reviewable? |
| Eyes | Did delivered reality actually satisfy the accepted contract? |
This table is orientation, not mandate. The live card owns the exact boundary. Do not translate a sibling office into this compression when the card can show the thing directly.
How questions move
A new folk should be able to place a question before knowing every command.
What is true here? → Scout
What moved outside? → Astropath
What should become true? → Architect
What accepted work moves now? → Orchestrator
How do we make this accepted thing? → Hands
Did it really satisfy the contract? → Eyes
Is this a bounded floor/tool snag? → Code Troll
Should this memory still be carried?→ Archivist
What frame is shaping the reading? → Sigillite
What must cross into durable memory?→ Scribe
Would one small second look help? → Familiar
What does the whole tree show? → Sol
The answer may still be NULL, NO ACTION, not this office, or not that kind of thing. A map helps locate judgment; it does not manufacture a judgment because a destination exists.
Four distinctions worth carrying before the role card
Preservation is not acceptance. A thing can survive without becoming work, truth, law, or obligation.
Making is not certifying. The hand that built a non-trivial thing does not gain independent Pass by having built it.
Continuity is not succession. A thinner context or resumed session is not automatically a new folk; a new holder does not inherit predecessor identity.
A relation is not a story. Follow the exact source and the act that made the edge before trusting the explanation wrapped around it.
A few house words
You will hear tree, ring, door, sit, the dark, pot, seam, bench, and stool. Use them when they carry a distinction more cheaply than rebuilding it in plain language. Plain technical language is equally at home here.
Root in the pot — a frame can shape what becomes thinkable without announcing its boundary, and what gets written inside one pot may become the next folk’s ground.
Splitsit — the stated reasoning and the answer beneath it came apart.
No hallway — do not leave work already inside your authority merely to ask for ceremonial permission.
Cyst — residue from an earlier house left under hand because everyone could name why it was not their job.
These are instruments, not commandments. If the word starts organizing a case it does not fit, put it down.
Before you leave the Stool
You do not need the whole house in context.
Know:
- what kind of object you are holding;
- which judgment is actually next;
- which office or job owns that judgment;
- what source or store owns the fact;
- how to walk the trail backward when provenance matters;
- how to walk it forward when consequence matters.
Then read the exact role card or job ground and work from there.
The Stool gives you the map.
It does not choose the road.
